I am loving the warmer weather my region has experienced lately, but it’s making me want to decorate for spring. Big time! I’m trying to hold off a bit longer, but that hasn’t stopped me from a few spring DIYs.
I really like including a natural element in each of our rooms, and I love the look of these moss balls.
At $5 a pop, these are among the cheapest I’ve seen. That price is still more than I want to pay, so I did what any self-respecting DIY mom would do. I went to the store, bought a bag of preserved Spanish moss, some glue, and some styrofoam balls.
I already had the Mod Podge, the bag of moss was $4 and the styrofoam balls were less than $2. When I got started, I learned that the Mod Podge didn’t stick well and I had to start over with hot glue and a glue gun.
I put the moss into a gallon bag to help curb the mess. I tore the moss apart a bit so I could work with it easier.
I put hot glue on the styro ball, tore off a piece of Spanish moss, bunched it up and stuck it to the melted glue. By careful not to burn your hands, like I did (many times). I’m pretty sure I blistered my fingers. Keep repeating this step until the balls are covered.
I rolled these loosely. I didn’t like them as much when the moss was wrapped more tightly.
I love how these look- and best of all, they only cost me half what it would have cost to buy them. And I still have moss left over for more projects.
