21-day challenge: The entry way

As you know, we are currently doing the 21-day challenge, where you focus on decluttering and organizing a different area of your home.

We lack a mudroom, so our small entry is all we have. It is a nice space, but not well utilized.

The table is nice but it catches EVERYTHING! The baskets are nice but also catch everything.

They used to have a clear cut purpose but then we just started cramming stuff in them.

See what I mean? Organizing this area took exactly ten minutes. I emptied both baskets and put things in the following three piles: put away, throw away, and belongs here.

I designated one basket for going out items, that we commonly need when we are walking out the door.

The yellow folder houses my daughter’s school papers, so I made that basket a “homework basket.”

I wasn’t too crazy about the cloth baskets once I got them, and I’m still not satisfied with these cubes.

I also have plans for this area:

Since the 21-day challenge is more about organizing than revamping spaces, I’m putting my focus on decluttering.

But I can’t wait to show you my New and improved entryway next month.

In the meantime, here are the before and afters:
