Year in Review

2016 was a pretty good year. It had its faults and there were plenty of not-so-great moments… but, at the same time, we did accomplish some good things. Aside from raising these two sweeties, here are some other awesome things that happened.

January 2016:

We started our year with a new bathroom shelf and an organized pantry…

And a two month old!

February 2016:

We finally found something to hang behind the couch.

And we celebrated Valentines Day as a family of four.

March 2016:

My hubby had a birthday

And I shared our botanical wall art in our bathroom.

April 2016:
I turned 31

And I reorganized my oldest’s hair bow and accessories collection.

May 2016: We celebrated seven years of marriage and this girl graduated from preschool.

We also revealed our new laundry room.

June 2016:

We shared our new front porch:

This girl turned five, and we went to the beach.

July 2016:

We had a blast at our church July 4 picnic and I shared a Fixer Upper inspired sign and our newly decorated back porch.

August 2016:

The biggest thing that happened in August was this:

I shared my ideas for our front and a garden party.

September 2016:

We all survived the stomach bug and I posted this:

Then, I shared our fall home tour here and here.

October 2016:

A very cute lamb and a super cute Minnie Mouse accompanied us to our church fall festival.

And we had our front flower bed cleared out in preparation for a re-do.

November 2016:

The best thing that happened in November was the first birthday of this chick. My friend Charlotte took some gorgeous pictures of the event.

I shared my closet “seasonal switching” tips and  my favorite fall decor tips.

December 2016:

24 days of Christmas both entertained me and made me tired. I shared our candlelight tour, Christmas tour, and these sweet snowglobe ornaments

Our sweet oldest performed in both her kindergarten Christmas program and the Christmas play at our church. We traveLed out of state for Christmas with family.

We ended our year with our youngest sick and in the hospital.

No, 2016 wasn’t the best of years, but it wasn’t all bad. I believe 2017 will be better, and I can’t wait to see what good things await us in 2016. Happy New Year, my friends.

Planning a first birthday party to remember

**All photos by Charlotte de López **

This past weekend, our precious baby girl turned one. While we are so proud of how big she’s getting and how much she is learning, we are a little taken aback by what a quick year it has been.
There were many snafus and the party almost didn’t happen. But before we talk about everything that went wrong, Let’s talk about what went well.

I really loved our  Very Hungry Caterpillar theme and all the decorations. Our table cloths, banners, treat bags, napkins and paper lanterns came from Oriental Trading.  I made the paper caterpillar with the pictures on them.

Our daughter’s dress, diaper cover  and hair bow came from Etsy.

The cakes came from  Central Bakery in Asheboro, NC.

Now for the snafus. Chick-fil-A lost our order but handled it with grace.   They quickly put together our order and everything was fine.

Aubrey's First Birthday

In my scurry to get everything finished, I forgot all about getting balloons. Who has a child’s birthday party without balloons? Luckily, my parents were able to save the day.

In the grand scheme of things, the party went well.   Everything went well and everyone seemed to have fun.

Especially the guest of honor.

If you want your child’s birthday to be a success and avoid the snafus, consider the following tips:

birthday-party-planning-checklist

To download, right click and save it to your machine. It’s free!

  1. Create a checklist and do as much of the party prep early (as possible). This is an area in which I could have done better, and then those snafus wouldn’t have happened.

2. Delegate, delegate, delegate. You can’t do everything, and if you try, you’re going to be too stressed to enjoy the party (and yourself), and you’re going to forget things.

3. Hire a photographer. You are going to be way too busy to do it yourself. We had a friend of ours from church, who is also a photography student, photograph our party. I’m glad, too, because she is incredibly talented and she captured several shots that I love!

4. Relax and enjoy the day. Things will go wrong. It won’t be perfect. Don’t let that get in the way of your fun. Make memories and enjoy your family. Before you know it, you’ll be celebrating their birthday next year.

Happy party planning! Please feel free to download my checklist. It’s free, and all you have to do is right click on it and save it to your computer.

Happy birthday, Aubrey!

One year ago today we were blessed to finally meet this tiny little girl.

She was four weeks early, but took all day to come into the world. Aubrey Reed Boone was born about 25 hours after we were admitted to the hospital. She did things her way on her time, and she’s been marching to the beat of her own drum ever since.

Emorie: A special photo shoot

This week, I shared some very blessed news we received recently. I did it in a very neat way, or at least I thought so.

We are elated to announce our sweet girl will be a big sister somewhere around November 23. The date is special to us, since it is my dad’s birthday. If you know anything about my family, then you know that my daddy is currently dealing with stage four colon cancer. He has gotten some recent good news, but he has had quite an ordeal since he was diagnosed in January 2014.
We are grateful for this new life. Please let me take this time to show you these sweet pictures of my baby girl. These are by no means all of them, but they are my favorites. They were shot using a Nikon D5300 and in my front yard 🙂 Nothing formal, just fun.
Hope you like these sweet pictures! She is very photogenic and loves to have her picture taken. She is partly responsible for her outfit. I wanted her to wear the shirt, but she had to wear those shoes and the skirt. For the sake of getting some pictures of her being cute and not grumpy, I let her wear the skirt and shoes. Some things aren’t worth fighting over…. and they still turned out cute 🙂
