Tuesday Tips and Tricks: Choosing a rug

Help With Writing A College Admission Essay
Choosing a rug for your home can be a tough decision. Not only are rugs an expensive investment, there are all sorts of styles and sizes to choose from. If you’re like me, it takes you a long time to make an expensive purchase like this one because you want to avoid regretting that purchase later.

Academic Assignments Help We have several area rugs in our home, and recently bought a large rug for our dining room. We are currently shopping for a rug for our master bedroom.

Aubrey’s rug is a knock off of a much more expensive one. I do wish this one were a little bigger.
So how do you know what size rug you need?

Here are a few things like to consider when buying a rug.

online essay corrections
1. Where will it be used?

go here Believe it or not, where you use the rug makes a huge difference in what you buy. When we bought our dining room rug, I knew I needed a low pile, dark colored rug. I have a toddler who loves to throw food. A light colored rug would show stains and a high pile rug would be hard to clean.

2. Know the rug size.

http://fionadalwood.com/harvard-essay-admissions/ My table seats right with the leaves in, so I knew I needed a rug that would accommodate the table extended to its full length. A 5×7 was way too small but an 8×10 was perfect.

3. Consider the colors of the wall, furnishings, and floor.

watch Make sure your rug isn’t too close to the floor color. A neutral color is best because a rug is an investment, and you want your rug to go with almost any decor. This gives you opportunities to change it up with accent pieces!

4. A higher quality rug will be more expensive but will wear better and last longer. You get what you pay for, and rugs are no different.

5. Get a nonslip rug pad.

Even if your rug is not in a high traffic area, a rug pad will improve the look and feel of the rug. It will also help the rug stay down on the floor, without rolling and curling.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this series on choosing a rug. Have a great Tuesday!

Designing my dream living room with Arhaus

A few weeks ago, a representative from Arhaus contacted me and asked me to create my dream living room.

I was able to find several living room furnishings on the Arhaus website; in fact, I probably could have created three dream living rooms! Arhaus has a lot of different options, whether your style is contemporary, traditional or modern. You can find the Arhaus Furniture page right here.

My dream living room has a fireplace, oak beams and shiplap walls, and would be found in a 100 year old farmhouse.

I found this picture on Pinterest, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find an original source.

If I were going to furnish the room above, it would look like this. All of the furniture, the rug and the drapes are from Arhaus. The paint color is Simply White by Benjamin Moore.

Because a couch is an investment piece, you should probably choose a neutral color. This sofa, with its skirting and rolled arms, fits right into my farmhouse theme. I absolutely love that buffalo checked chair! I’d buy two of them to compliment the neutral sofa, and provide more seating. The rug and draperies are also neutrals, but they pair nicely with the checked chairs. A neutral throw adds a layer of softness to the room, while throw pillows add a pop of color. This room looks cozy and comfortable but also nice enough to be formal. The furniture from Arhaus is absolutely perfect!
Shopping guide:

 Sofa.  Chairs. Drapes. Area rug

Throw.  Pillows.  End tables.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my dream living room! What does your dream living room look like?

Word-full Wednesday

I’ve been trying to share quotes on Wednesday that speak to me. Sometimes they’re really relatable quotes, but other times they’re just quotes that are pertinent to whatever is happening in my head at the moment.

I didn’t make this printable, but I did find this one on Pinterest (original source unknown).

Comparison is something I struggle with. “She does just as much as I do, if not more. How come she has it together and I don’t?”

This quote speaks to me because it reminds me of how I shouldn’t compare myself to others. We are all unique, and fearfully and wonderfully made. We each have our own unique needs and talents. We all have a unique purpose in life.

Just like no two flower blooms are the same, neither are we. That speaks to me and reminds me to celebrate my “uniqueness” instead of play the comparison game.

Have a wonderful week!

Updating the playroom part two

Our playroom is something of a design conundrum.

DSC_0098

There is only one solid wall, and there is a HVAC vent right where the cradle is sitting. That’s why the shelves are off center. The electrical panel also throws a wrench in my decorating.

DSC_0111 DSC_0113

When I say there is only one solid wall, this is what I mean. Two of the walls have pass throughs.

DSC_0112

The remaining wall has two windows. Not complaining- those walls let in some great natural light and look out into our backyard.

So, what can you do with those two pass through walls?

DSC_0108

We got two cubby shelves. They are not so tall that they block the “windows.” We have room that we could add two more cubby shelves if we wanted… but we don’t.

DSC_0110 DSC_0104

The floor space that two more shelves would occupy is already occupied…by the wheeled toys, the easel, the dollhouse and the barn.

Another design conundrum is the loud floor. It clashes with EVERYTHING. It isn’t real slate; it’s laminate. We eventually have a different use in mind for this room, and when that happens, the floor will be the same red oak that’s in the rest of the house.  Until then, the kids can play all they want and I don’t have to worry about them hurting the floor.

What’s in the plans for our playroom? Well, we’re putting in some new curtains, a fun wall treatment, some paint, and some art. Here is what I have in mind:
