Create a serene backyard retreat with a pavilion

Enjoy Your Summer in a New Backyard Pavilion

A backyard pavilion provides a great place for outdoor activities and relaxation. Whether you want to relax in the shade with a cup of tea or have lunch with the kids, an outdoor pavilion provides the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors. A pavilion can be built in various designs, materials, shapes and sizes with the help of a professional contractor and free contractor leads in your area.

A Garden Pavilion

If you love nature and gardening, build your backyard pavilion in a quiet garden setting where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. What could be better than relaxing in the midst of chirping birds, colorful butterflies and beautiful plants and flowers with aromatic scents. For a comfortable garden pavilion, all you need is a couple of lounge chairs and occasional tables or a comfortable bench. If an afternoon nap in the garden pavilion sounds like a great idea, just hang a cozy hammock and a few throw pillows and you’re all set for a relaxing afternoon.

A Poolside Pavilion

If you have a swimming pool, a backyard pavilion makes a wonderful outdoor feature for outdoor activities and entertaining. A poolside pavilion provides the perfect place for swimmers to dry off and get out of the hot sun. You can create a storage area with clean towels, even a changing area if you have the space. If you’re entertaining family and friends with a pool party, guests can head to the pavilion for food and drinks. If you have enough space and an adequate budget, consider adding a cozy fireplace or fire pit which will provide warmth and atmosphere to your poolside pavilion.

By adding a few special features to your poolside pavilion, you can increase your opportunities for entertaining year-round.

* Large Screen TV – With comfortable seating and some electrical outlets, you can install a large screen TV in your pavilion. This will create a perfect opportunity for sports parties, movies with the family and video games with the kids.

* Music System – With wireless technology, it’s now quite easy to set up a surround sound system outdoors. You can purchase waterproof, wireless speakers, as well as smart home systems for easy, convenient sound control.

* Wet Bar – A wet bar in your pavilion will provide fun, easy entertaining options for the entire family. Whether you stock it with wine, beer or soft drinks, your guests can mingle and relax in a comfortable pavilion atmosphere.

Five things Friday

I have been doing Farmhouse Friday, and I’ll get back to that next week. This week I’m taking a break to share five of my absolute favorite things with you. I call it (wait for it) Five Things Friday! So original, huh?

The entire purpose of this is simply for me to share five things that I love with you.

1. Spring’s Eden candles, $18 at Anthropologie

I love, love love these! They burn well and they smell amazing! And how cute is that container? This one is amber bergamot scented, which I love.

2. Pioneer Woman dishes, assorted sizes and prices at Wal-Mary

I love Ree Drummond and her line of kitchen goodies at Wal-Mary. Such pretty, bright colors. They’re both cute and functional, and I love everything I’ve bought from this line.

3. LL Bean fisherman sweater, $89

These sweaters are so comfy and they’re really cute. I have two of them (that I bought on sale) and since our weather is super unpredictable this time of year, I’m getting a little extra use out of them. They really are worth the money.

4. Chalk paint and mason jars

I showed you this sweet chalk painted mason jar last week. This is one of my simplest, yet cutest projects to date. I just love how the chalk paint makes the details on the jars pop. And how cute are they with these flowers?

And finally,

5. Trim Healthy Mama mufflets

These tiny omelets in a muffin disguise are amazing. They are super easy to make and super cheap. They are also the perfect grab and go food, and everyone in my family loves them!

Have a wonderful weekend.

A hot cocoa station

We are coffee drinkers at my house, but this time of year, we like to drink hot chocolate.

I decided to create a hot chocolate bar. I started with an IKEA tray.

My hot chocolate bar contains these cute little hot chocolate tins my hubby got from his secret Santa (and then I stole them).

There are peppermint sticks and marshmallows.

Then, there is a jar of cocoa and a salt shaker with cocoa in it.

And that’s how I made my cocoa bar.

A backyard party

When we bought our house three years ago, we inherited this large Polywood table and six chairs. The table and chairs are certainly sturdy and they’re pretty comfy, so we are grateful.

For a long time, the table took up space on our back porch and it just didn’t fit the space. On a whim, I moved the table down to the patio where our fire pit used to be.

You see, now this table gives us an awesome space to have a pretty little summer party.

Simple placemats with solid green dishes and melamine salad plates add a little color to the table. Green was chosen since it highlights the plants in the area.

Handmade cloth napkins complete the look.

I didn’t want the tablescape to be overwhelming so I just cut some flowers from the yard and scattered them in glass vases all over the table.

The table fits the space so much better and gives us yet another space for entertaining.

I’m so glad I entertained that “whim” and moved the table to the patio.

What “whims” have worked for you recently?

Organized event planning…sort of.

We’ve had so much going on lately- my grandfather has been really sick, and we have had a lot to do to prepare for the upcoming birth of our second daughter. Still, I couldn’t let my sweet girl’s birthday party get pushed to the wayside. She turned four this month, and she asked for a Hello Kitty themed party.

It was delicious, and no, I didn’t make it. I have no idea how to decorate cakes.
But, if you live in Central NC like us, Central Bakery in Asheboro is A-MA-ZING!

I usually start planning parties months ahead, but this one was rather thrown together. We managed to, even though the party was completely planned a month before the actual date, rent a bounce house for the kiddos. We also, due to a scheduling conflict, had to postpone the party a whole week, which meant most of our family members were on vacation and did not get to come.

We still had a lot of family members celebrate with us and Emorie and two of her cousins had a blast in the bounce house. She got so many nice gifts and has continued to talk about her party in the days since.

So, how do you plan a child’s birthday party in a short amount of time? The best advice there is that you don’t do it in a short amount of time, but if you do, a thoroughly organized checklist might make it less stressful. I used this checklist to make sure I didn’t leave out anything and I didn’t forget to bring anything to the party. It worked great, and even helped me to be a little less stressed.

I created this party planning checklist, which you can download for free. It looks a bit plain on Google Drive, but when you download it, it will look a little better. It’s also a MS Word document, and you can edit it to your heart’s content.

I hope you enjoy the checklist! Happy planning!

Entertaining: Decorating using all discount store items! Challenge accepted.

I was challenged by a good friend to plan a table from dishes to decor using cheap items from a discount store, such as Garden Ridge or Christmas Tree Shops. I accepted the challenge and chose to dress my table using items from Christmas Tree Shops.

It’s October now, and many of us are planning our holiday parties and dinners. I have a large arsenal of entertaining serve ware and dishes to choose from, but not everyone does. The husband would disagree, but I can always use more serve ware. If I were to go shopping at this moment, here is what I would choose.

5. White porcelain dinner ware, Christmas Tree Shops ($4.99-6.49)

Plain white dinner ware is very versatile and it goes a long way. We have formal china at our house and we have every day dinner ware that we use. If you’re having a big dinner party, and you’re OCD like me, everything has to match or you’ll lose your mind. This is a cheaper option for purchasing a large set of matching dinner ware so you won’t have to use your every day dishes.

4. Pfaltzgraff Floral Frost Flatware, $20 for a four-piece place setting.

These look a lot like my actual flatware set, Lenox Opal Innocence.  $20 for a four-piece place setting isn’t bad. I could get enough flatware to service my dinner party for $100, and it would still look like I’d paid a lot more.

3. Serveware items: White Ceramic Serving Platter with Handles, $12.99. I would use these for serving meats.

12″ White Ceramic Serving Bowl, $12.99

1.25 Gallon Yorkshire Mason Drink Dispenser

2. Table Linens,  Paisley Basketweave Tablecloth, $12.99

Cotton Hemstitch Napkins, Set of four, $5.99

1. Decor: I would just go with something simple, so it wouldn’t compete with the table cloth. What about a white pitcher with white  flowers like this one?
