Make Something Monday: Inspired And Empowered

My oldest daughter is a gymnast, and we are also in the process of updating both girls’ rooms. This quote is hanging in her gymnastics studio, and it’s a quote we have come to use a lot at our house.
I am a fan of anything that is positive, empowering, or promoting trying vs. Quitting. I plan on printing this for display in both my classroom and my daughter’s room.

Make Something Monday: Fall Crafts and Printables Roundup

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love football, pumpkins, big sweaters and boots. All year I look forward to this season. Our leaves aren’t doing much yet but our temperatures are starting to cool off and we can finally sit outside without sweating buckets.

This week, I’d like to share a number of fall prints, fall decorating ideas and fall crafts. All of these are super cute and cheap to make.

And then after you finish your decorating, you can make this easy fall chicken noodle soup.

Make Something Monday: Chevron Letter

I am a blogger by night, but a teacher all other hours. While my daughter has already gone back to school, my students do not arrive until the week of the 27th.

I am busily setting up my classroom and getting it ready for a new crop of eighth graders. I wanted something cute to hang above my bulletin board. The previous occupant had a really cute Wreath hanging there. I liked that idea, but wanted to do something different.

Since I have already spent a lot of money on my classroom, I decided to repurpose something I already had. I dug through my craft cabinet and found a letter I once used as a door hanger.

I found some scrapbook paper that matched my room and I laid the letter on it, face down.

This is so much easier if you trace and cut out your letter before gluing it to the paper.

After tracing and cutting out the letter, I then used Modge Podge to affix the paper to the letter.

Then, I used a foam brush to spread a thin layer of Modge Podge over the paper. I also attached a ribbon to the back with a staple gun.

This was super easy and fun! My daughter saw it and now she wants to make one. You can use anything you have to cover the letter: craft paint, chalk paint, scrapbook paper, adhesive drawer liner…you name it!

And best of all, I used only materials I already had, so this cost me nothing!

Make Something Monday: Free summer printables

If you know me, you know I really love a good printable. You also know I love a good FREE printable. I got a little bored recently and created a few Printables with summer appropriate quotes on them.

I thought I’d share a few of those with you. To download, righ click and save to your device. For best results, print no larger than 8×10.

How about this one?

And if you’re into photographic art, you may like this one.

As you can see, I was overdressed in this photo.

And if none of these Printables tickle your fancy, here’s a collection of summer quotes from Country Living (these are NOT mine).

Make Something Monday: DIY notebooks and photo albums

I had some cardboard left over from online orders, and it was way too much to waste.

But what could I do with it? What could I make?

I had an idea: why not get out some scrapbook paper and make some small notebooks and photo albums?

I cut the cardboard to the desired sizes and folded it over to make a flap.

Then I used Locktite spray adhesive to affix scrapbook paper to what would be the front cover.

Then, you cover the folded over edges on the inside with contrasting paper like this:

Then, cut your notebook paper to the desired size and punch holes where you want them to go.

Punch holes in the cardboard flap and back cover with scissors. Make sure your notebook paper holes line up with these holes!

Get some binding posts (Lowes Hardware sells them for $.88) and poke them through the holes. Put your notebook paper on the posts and secure the fold over the paper. Screw the screw head into the post.

And when you’re finished, you’ll have a recycled notebook that is refillable!

I made two of this size to function as  photo books:

And one flip top notebook

A journal sized notebook, another flip top notebook and a matchbook style notebook:

This is a super fun activity to do with kids. I can’t wait to show you the scrapbook we’re making together.

Have a wonderful week!

Make it Monday: Free printable home maintenance checklist

We have certain regular tasks we do to keep our home looking nice inside and out.

Because there are so many of these tasks, we need a checklist so we remember them all. …and we need to remember whether we’ve already done them.

I simply print two copies- one for the fridge and a 5×7 copy that I attach to my planner.

I have attached a free printable checklist for you so you can see how we keep up with our regular household chores. To print, simply right click, and save to your device.

Make it Monday: DIY personalized wall art and how you can make it!!

I saw something similar to this in a catalog earlier this week and immediately thought about how easy it’d be to make.

All you need is word processor and to download some fonts that you like.

My finished product looks like this, though I’m thinking of ordering it on a canvas.

I used Bookman Old Style for the big B and the “Boone,” but used Brush Script Demo for the “established,” and Bradley Hand for the year. Dafont.com  and Freefonts.com are a great place to get free fonts if none of these appeal to you.

This printable is super easy and lots of fun to make.

Now, where to hang it?

Free chalkboard printable: “For unto you is born this day…”

I don’t know about you, but my favorite Scriptural account of the birth of Jesus is found in Luke. I’ve read Matthew’s account many times, but there is just something about how Luke wrote it that just makes me love it.

Too often this time of year, we get caught up in the “magic” of the season rather than the “meaning.” I’m certainly guilty of getting caught up in my Christmas trees, gift giving, and the material aspects of Christmas that I forget all about the real reason for Christmas: the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I created a chalkboard printable to remind myself that Jesus is the real reason for Christmas. It isn’t gifts, pretty decorations, or even the spirit of giving and fellowship. It’s the birth of our risen Savior Jesus Christ.

To download the printable, please right click on it and save it to your device.

For unto us a child is born

Another Christmas giveaway

Boredom + insomnia= free printables for you!

Last week, while Emorie took a nap, I got bored and created a bunch of free printable Christmas decorations for you.
Now, it is 1:40 A.M. and the rest of my household is asleep. I am wide awake, cannot sleep, and just finished making these Christmas tags.
I also just finished a 2016 home binder/ weekly planner and a cute advent calendar, but I will talk more about those in a later post.
Until then, feel free  to download my tags if you want. I only ask if you are a blogger and you link these, please give me credit. Thanks! And by the way, that Christmas house tour is so close I can feel it. Watch and wait, because it is coming soon!
