Saturday Musings

Happy Saturday from this guy. Things have been rough and stressful this week. My dad is not doing well and we know his time is coming. Thanks to everyone who has found time to send us messages and kind words. We appreciate your prayers and well wishes.

Despite the difficulties, we have managed to find some smiles.

Speaking of smiles, someone is missing a few teeth…just in time for picture day at school.

And this kiddo fed her PopPop some apples.

Here are my girls sharing some mac and cheese at my parents’ house.

And then sleeping in their car seats.

We are spending time with family and enjoying my dad while we have him here still. If things get quiet on the blog in the next few weeks, please don’t worry.

Here is what I’m reading this week:

Saturday

Happy Saturday!

This past week, we were headed up to WV to see our family. It was a short trip, but a great one.

Aubrey thoroughly enjoyed her sister’s vocal stylings.

And Emorie got schooled at the School of Rock via her great uncle Michael. We went to my other uncle’s house where we had a cookout. We saw cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles, great aunts and uncles… and we had tons of good things to eat all weekend long!! We had a blast, but like always, the visit wasn’t long enough.

This weekend, we are helping some friends celebrate their birthdays and we are getting a few things done around the house. I’m also doing a little reading:

Saturday Musings: a summer recap

What a wonderful, lovely summer it has been. A quick summer, but still a good one.

At the beginning of summer, Emorie turned six.

Emorie also got to participate in a six week gymnastics class at her dance studio, and went to cheerleading camp for the first time ever.

Both kiddos had a blast at our church July 4 picnic.

This summer, Emorie attended Bible School for the fourth year and Aubrey for the first year.

Then, our sweet girl attended Kingdom Kids at our church for the first year ever.

Then, we took a family road trip to Pigeon Forge before school started back.

It’s so hard to believe our girl is headed to first grade this week. She’s had a wonderful summer and she’s grown and changed so much.

I hope you all have a wonderful school year.

Saturday Musings

Our summer is quickly drawing to a close. My oldest is due to start school in two weeks. My own school year will start in about 3 1/2 weeks. As a friend recently said, “Summer should get a speeding ticket!”

This week, my youngest climbed into the rocking chair and “read” some books.

Bed hair, don’t care.

My girls have enjoyed being together this summer.

And I keep getting cute snaps like this.

Check out Little Miss Hollywood!

Life updates:

Our Bible study is now almost three weeks in. If you are looking for a positive, encouraging Bible study that still teaches and convicts you, reach for this one. It’s amazing how Nicki Koziarz uses the Book of Ruth to illustrate perseverance and faith. It’s the perfect Bible study for where I am in life right now.

Trim Healthy Mama & Fitness

I am 100% on plan now with THM after loosely following it for 18 months. I feel better than ever and have lost almost 15 pounds, and 14 inches. I sleep better and my hair and skin are healthier as well. Plus, I still eat many of the things I’ve always enjoyed, just with modified ingredients. I’m also exercising 30 minutes a day. We eat at home more as well, which has definitely been a game changer.

House

We are working now to get organized for the new school year. We have organized dressers, closets, the pantry, work spaces… we are working hard to simplify our lives before school starts. We are not currently working on any other projects.

Saturday Musings

Last weekend my sweet Emorie was in our church’s Bible School Commencement.

Aubrey attended Bible School for the first time ever. She loved it, especially music time. She showed off her dance moves.

My cute little NCSU cheerleaders on Game Day at VBS. They were reppin’ Mommy’s alma mater!

This week, my hubby and I went to The Vintage Warehouse, which is a once a month sale in a town south of us. We didn’t buy anything but we saw some really cool things. Here’s an antique phone booth:

We will definitely go back to their August sale next month.

A few updates:

Bible Study

We are gearing up for week two of A Woman Who Doesn’t Quit, a Bible study based upon the book of Ruth. I am privileged to be doing this study with a special group of ladies. Some are relatives, some are recent friends, and some are friends from high school and church. I am learning so much about myself and about the Book of Ruth.

Fitness goals

I am two months into my Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle and loving it! I’ve lost six pounds but nearly 11 inches. I’m also doing a challenge group with Beachbody and doing PiYo. I feel and look better than I have in a long time.

Homefront

We are almost finished with our dining room and entry way products. Can’t wait to show you!

And now, here’s what I’m reading this weekend:

Saturday Musings

I hope you have had a wonderful week. We have been busy this week with Vacation Bible School, but it has been a great week.

We had planned to cook out and fish with members of our church, but the weather interfered. We did get to eat and fish a little before the storm. How pretty is this view?

And this little cherub was too entertaining:

Saturday Musings

My grandmother’s Christmas cactus
For as long as I can remember, my Nana has had this Christmas cactus, which she got from my great-aunt. I have always admired it. Lately I’ve been reading about the benefits of house plants and how they can purify the air.

Pure breathing air isn’t just good for your pulmonary system; it’s good for your mental health as well. Having indoor plants promotes happiness and a sense of calm.

My grandmother gave me some starts from her Christmas cactus when we went to see her last week. I’m rooting two sections of it: one for my home and one for my classroom this fall. I am also working on growing some other plants indoors as well. More on that later.

We celebrated July 4th last week with a church picnic and some watery fun!

Then, we went to see some fireworks.

We are also doing some other fun things this weekend. Yesterday, we helped decorate for Vacation Bible School. We might not have been a big help, but we had fun.

We will be meeting up with church friends for a cookout tonight.

Who knows what else we’ll do?

Aubrey thinks this plant stand is a nice seat.

And now for a few updates:

I painted our living room over spring break and it was a chore! We still need to paint our bedroom, the office, the dining room, kitchen and the playroom. I am hoping to get the playroom and office knocked out this week. We shall see.

I am continuing to be blessed by this wonderful bible study. I am also still looking for active participants who are willing to join me in this study. You will be incredibly blessed!

Health:

I’ve learned that I have arthritis in my back and hip, and that is what’s causing my back to hurt. I went to the doctor and was prescribed physical therapy and medication. I’m trying a few holistic methods as well.

Trim Healthy Mama:

I was doing so well with THM and was almost 100% on plan, but then i went on vacation and I got off track 🙁  I was feeling cruddy and putting weight on, so I’m trying now to get back on plan. Slowly but surely I am getting there!!

Here’s what I’m reading this week:

Stonegable: Secrets to be a better home decorator

Saturday Musings

This week, we went to my grandparents’ house in southern West Virginia for a few days. It was a blast, and it gave us a much needed break. Plus, anytime we get to spend time with family is a bonus.

We went swimming at a pool where I used to swim as a kid…and so did my mama. Then, we went to my happy place: Pipestem State Park. I spent tons of time here as a kid, and you can do just anything there. You can camp, rent cabins or stay in the lodges, fish, hike, play golf, swim…the list goes on. You can’t beat the views.

You can ride a tram down to the bottom of the canyon and stay in a lodge there, or just wade in the river like I used to do.

We enjoyed the view, and then we played on the playground.

My budding gymnast. Her shirt says, “If you can read this, please turn me over.”

Aubrey loves a swing. She could do this all day long.

Then we went to go play putt putt. I don’t think we’ll ever be professional golfers, but we had a great time.

A good time was definitely had by all.

Before I share my weekend reading list, I wanted to give you a few updates.

Bible Study:

I recently finished “The Comparison Trap” by Sandra Stanley and now I’ve started “A Woman Who Doesn’t Quit” by Nicki Koziarz. I’m only two days into this bible study and I’m already so blessed by it. I am currently doing this independently, so if you’re interested, I’d love to partner up and we can work on it together. Just email me!

On the homefront

We are still working to complete our entry and our dining room. Currently, we lack only a nice rug and light fixture to finish our foyer, as well as a nice area rug for our dining room. We are also working on some plans for our backyard. I cannot wait to share them with you!!

An ETSY shop?

I’m planning to open an online shop soon, and I’m currently finalizing what will be available for sale in my store. I’m pricing a wholesale list of farmhouse products with natural or organic ingredients. There will be some candies, but it will mostly include gifts and handmade soaps for sure.

Dreams

I recently read “The Magnolia Story” by Chip and Joanna Gaines and was surprised to see that Joanna, whom we all see as an entrepreneur, was at one time scared to open any of the various businesses she designed and planned out. Chip gave her the courage to do it. I toss around lots of ideas in my head of things I’d like to do, but I’m pretty terrible at actually making them happen. I overthink them and get way too scared to make it a reality. I am working toward making one of those dreams a reality, but I’m not far enough into it yet to talk about it. When I am in a place where I can give you more details, I will.

And now, on to what I’m reading this weekend:

Country Living: 2017 Lake House of the Year

Southern Living: Make your house feel like a home

BHG: Cheap chic cabinets

Have a wonderful weekend. We’ll see you tomorrow for Scripture Sunday.

Saturday Musings

I hope you are doing well and having a wonderful weekend. We have had a wonderful week and now we’re just having a low key weekend with family.

Last week, we had a birthday. Our oldest turned six.

We let Emorie choose what she wanted to do (within reason). She chose to go to the trampoline park

To Chick-fil-A

And to BuildABear

Then, we had dinner at her favorite restaurant in our town. She had a blast!

This week, she had cheer camp:

Weekend Reading

Don’t mind Aubrey’s serious face. In fact, she’s not mad or serious at all. She just doesn’t like to smile when I take her picture.

This week, it finally happened. The day I’ve been waiting for: the last day of school. This year has been challenging in more ways than one, but we survived.

We have lots of plans for this summer. We have a few small renovations we’ll be doing, a few vacations planned, and a whole lot of sweet girl cuddles. I love having summers off with them!

Just look at all that sass!

Here’s what I’m reading this weekend.
