DIY Tips and Tricks Tuesday: unique flower planters

A few weekends ago, I spent an entire day just planting flowers. It was a fun, relaxing day, but it also made our outdoor spaces look a lot better. We had a lot of dead, brown plants that needed to be replaced. I’m certainly no landscaper but I’m more than happy to share what I’ve learned.

1. Don’t settle for the cheap flower pots.

In the past, I’ve used just the cheap pots that the flowers came in. Recently, I realized these flower pots were dry rotting, so I replaced them with these blue pots. While these look like expensive clay pots, they’re actually inexpensive resin pots from a local discount store. Not cheap nursery grade pots but not hugely expensive either.

2. Vary the heights of your plants

Just like indoors, you should vary the height of your planters to keep the eye moving. Here I’ve used logs as plant stands.

3. When it comes to planters, think outside the box.

My grandpa gave me this old chair a long time ago. I painted it yellow, took the seat out, put a few old boards in the bottom of the frame, and then dropped a potted fern in it.

4. Choose planters that show off your plants

This little flower resides on our back porch. This simple, white flower pot lets that cute little flower be the star of the show.

5. And finally, use an interesting planter that matches your decor.

This cute aqua planter came from Walgreens and it matches our porch pillows and rug perfectly.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these tips and tricks. Have a wonderful day!
