First Sunday of Advent

For today’s installment of the 24 Days of Christmas, I am going to share with you the first Sunday of Advent.  Yesterday, I created an advent wreath, which is so easy and simple to do.

Plus, it’s a completely open-ended project, and you can customize your wreath anyway you like.

There are four Sundays in the advent calendar, which are represented by the four candles in the advent wreath.

The first candle, known as the prophet’s candle, symbolizes hope and reminds us that Jesus is coming.

Today, we have lit the first candle and we are reading the related verses, Romans 15: 12-13: (NIV)

12 And again, Isaiah says, “The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will hope.”
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Today, as we read these verses and light our prophet’s candle, we pray the Lord will prepare our hearts for His coming and remind us we have hope in Him.
Aren’t you glad we have hope in Christ and in His return?
