From old chair to unique plant stand

So many people have asked about the chair with the fern that I recently shared.

I decided to revise and repost my original post about the chair, especially how I acquired the chair. It’s actually kind of a cool story.

It all started when my grandpa gave me this old chair:

He gave it to me because I wanted an old chair to put a flower pot in, and hadn’t found anything I liked at the thrift shops.

He received the chair from a friend of his. You see, my grandpa is named Roy. His friend’s dad, also named Roy, had used this chair in his workshop.

I liked this chair, though, with its ladder back and its metal slats. I decided I wanted to paint it a color they would stand out.

I painted it bright yellow and then sanded it down with sandpaper to rough it up.

As you can see, I liked the metal slats but decided to remove them. They were a bit sharp and I was worried my children might hurt themselves.

I wanted to add some chicken wire and a coconut liner to hold in the potting soil. To save money, we decided to use some wood scraps we already had on hand.

These wood scraps turned out to be the perfect height for this potted fern I bought a few weeks ago.

I really love how much color and cuteness this project added to our greenhouse landing

Hope you like my plant chair!
