Mommy Mondays: The Best Back to School Books for Your Young School Child

bookheader

This year, I have a kindergartener. I have been a student for many years, and am entering my eighth year as a teacher, but I have never before been the parent of a school child. Thankfully, my daughter loves learning and was excited about starting school, but I still wanted to drum up some excitement about going to school.

Here are some of our favorite back to school books. These are far from all the books we’ve read concerning back to school matters, so if you have some favorites I didn’t mention, please comment below.

kisshand

1. The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn

Chester is a young raccoon that is going to kindergarten, but he is a little afraid. His mom shows him how she is still with him each day, even while he is away at school. This is one of our absolute favorite books.

firstdayjitters

2. First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg

It’s normal to be nervous about the first day of school…but did you know teachers get nervous sometimes, too? This book is funny and children always seem to love it.

chrysanthemum

3. Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes

I love Kevin Henkes books, but this sweet story is about a little mouse who loves her name and thinks it’s perfect…until she starts school. The ending of the book is especially sweet.

4. Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten

I have read this book soooo many times. This book is about a teacher as she prepares her classroom for her new students.

5. The Night Before Big School

This is a super sweet read for your kindergartener. We absolutely loved this book and it helped to answer some of the questions our little sweetie had.

Thanks so much for reading! I hope you enjoy these books as much as we have.
