If your kids are like mine, they’re pretty active. From summer swim classes to gymnastics, to just loving being outside, my oldest has a lot of energy, and BURNS a lot of energy too. But sometimes we’ll have a rainy day and swim class will get canceled, or we can’t play outside. Here are our top five ways to burn energy when we can’t play outside.
I bought this DVD when I was teaching elementary school to use on rainy days when we couldn’t go to recess. The students loved it and now that my oldest has inherited the DVD, she loves it as well. It has six dance-themed workouts on it. It’s a lot of fun for moms, too. You can get it here on Amazon.
2. Cosmic Kids Yoga
This is an example of utilizing some awesome and free stuff on YouTube. Cosmic Kids has themed yoga adventures ranging from Star Wars to Frozen to moon landing. My daughter loves it and has a blast with it. Best of all, it doesn’t cost a thing. You can find the link here.
3. Magic Moves Wand
This is not a program, but it will get your kid moving and burning energy. The microphone plays music and tells your child to do different moves, like “glide like a dolphin” and “stomp like a dinosaur.” My daughter loves hers. You can order it here from Amazon.
4. Kids Dance and Fitness with Paul Eugene
This is another “free on YouTube” exercise program for kids. My daughter likes to dance and she loves this one. Paul Eugene uses music and popular dance moves to keep your kids moving. Find the link here.
5. Walk like a bear, stand like a tree, run like the wind: cool yoga, stretching and aerobic activities for cool kids by Carol Bassett
This is an awesome book with full color illustrations of different yoga poses for kids. My daughter loves this!! You can find a copy of the book here.
