Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
This has always been one of my favorite verses for a number of reasons. I don’t really consider myself to be a fearful person, but I am a person who gets nervous in certain situations. For example, most people are surprised to learn that I don’t like public speaking or being in front of people. I am a teacher. While middle schoolers don’t bother me in the least, adults will turn me into a shaking bundle of nerves.
Anytime I am in a situation that makes me nervous, I repeat this verse to myself. God knows I am anxious or nervous; I don’t have to tell him. This verse reminds me that God is with me no matter the situation.
A little more than 10 years ago I was asked to read a poem at the funeral of a very dear relative. I was honored to do it, but so nervous. God was with me and Joshua 1:9 reminded me of this.
Any other anxiety-inducing time in my life, this verse has gotten me through. First day of school? God is here. Birth of my children? God was with me. My dad’s surgeries and fight with cancer? He is here.
I am adding this verse to my list of available printables. I’ll let you know when it’s available so you can download it and be reminded of God’s presence.
