Second Sunday of Advent

The second Sunday of Advent is upon us.

On the second week of Advent, the second candle is known as the “Bethlehem candle,” which symbolizes faith. The Bethlehem candle is meant to remind us of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.

I always think about how much faith and trusting in the Lord Mary must have had to take that journey. To travel such a great distance and so close to delivering her baby. That doesn’t sound like a plan any of us would make, but God had a plan. And His plan was perfect.

Tonight as we light the second candle, read Luke 3:4-6:
Luke 3:4-5New International Version (NIV)

4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.
5 Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth.

This week, let’s pray that the Lord prepares our hearts for the Christmas season and that we may remember the faith of Mary and Joseph and emulate that faith.

Have a wonderful week.
