Just like most of you, I am in the midst of spring cleaning. My spring cleaning is going a little slower than usual, due to having an almost six month old little girl and an active almost 5 year old. Still, I try to find the time to accomplish what I can.
This weekend, in between visiting with family, I was able to sort through three rooms and get rid of the following items:
That’s a bag of bottles we don’t use, two piles of magazines, a box of infant clothes recently outgrown by my baby girl, a shelf I bought at the thrift store and never used, and a pile of clothes I can no longer wear. The magazines found a new home at my kiddo’s preschool, the infant clothes with a friend who’s expecting a baby girl, and the other items were donated to the local thrift store.
As I’m trying to decide what to get rid of each year, I consider these following questions:
- Do I use this item? When is the last time I used this item? Do I use something that works better?
- Is the item something someone I know can use? If so, I ask that person and if they want it, I pass it to them. If not, I consign or donate.
- If the item is clothing, have I worn it recently? If not, why? Does it fit? Is it torn or stained? If the item is in good condition and I like how it fits, I keep it. If it is not in good shape, I throw it away. If it’s in good shape, I try to find someone I know who can use it, but if not, I donate or consign it.
I will be going through my craft cabinet, my bathrooms, and my oldest daughter’s rooms this week, so the purge pile will be growing! What are your favorite purge tips?
